Have you ever turned on the tap and wondered what is actually coming out? You are probably reasonably confident it’s been thoroughly tested before it reaches your tap and you don’t need a water filter, but is the water you are drinking really the best it can be or at least good enough to drink?

To have safe water without any nasties, we need to use additives such as chlorine, a disinfectant widely used by Australian water suppliers and many countries around the world.

It is beneficial to have the chlorine in the water from the dams, through the pipes to our houses but should we be drinking it and showering in it and washing our clothes in it and watering our gardens with it?

Filtering the water at the tap is one way of removing the additives. But what about the rest of the water lines and taps in your house? Installing one of our devices such as the HWTA Home Edge, onto the main water line into your house will remove 99.2% of Chlorine in the water as well as other unwanted toxins.

The Australian Drinking Water Guidelines specify that water “should contain no harmful concentrations of chemicals or pathogenic micro-organisms, and ideally it should be aesthetically pleasing in regard to appearance, taste and odour”.  What about the idea of reducing the chemicals all together.

Water authorities take a number of steps to ensure the safety of our drinking water, using sufficient disinfectant to stop the re-growth of microorganisms as the water travels through the pipe system to your home.

The downside of ensuring safe drinking water is the lingering taste and smell of disinfectant. If you fill up a jug with tap water and leave it to sit for a couple of hours, the disinfectant smell and taste will gradually dissipate, but many people only opt for a water filtering system for their sink for drinking water, without thinking of the other ways that Chlorine and additives can come into contact with us such as showering, washing our clothes in it, watering our gardens with it or giving it to the family pet to drink. Our device provides that solution.

Australians are spending more than half a billion dollars a year on bottled water which is having a huge impact on the environment. There is a huge energy cost to produce bottled water leaving a big footprint on the environment and only 35 percent actually gets recycled. Most bottles end up in the landfill.

Recently councils in some areas have made the decision to discourage the use of bottled water. Many are installing our devices to provide them with the best water they can have. Plus our portable HWTA Travel Edge is ideal for people on the go.

It is up to you to be responsible for knowing what you are putting in your body. In a water treatment plant, there are engineers, chemists and other experts who make water safe to drink. But how much do you know about this process and what is actually in the water you are drinking in your area?

Once you know more about your water then you will know what you need to do to improve it.

If you’re not happy with your waters taste or smell, you should take steps to look into it.  And beware that adding a normal water filter isn’t always the answer. Sometime a tradition water filter that catches all the nasties as the water runs through it, can do you more harm if not cleaned and maintained regularly or cartridges replaced.
