Bikinis and trunks are lining the shops and we’re only a month away from the full summer swing but are you ready for it? We may all love the beautiful weather and sunshine, but sometimes being ‘beach ready’ can cause unnecessary anxiety. It’s time to stop worrying and start doing!

There are a million different summer workouts out there for you and probably a million different diets to choose from. But instead of going paleo, gluten free or sugar free, start with small, doable changes to your every day life. So let’s step up your summer fitness routine today!

Develop a workout routine.  You don’t have to go over the top with your workout, you just have to be dedicated and find what works for you. According to the Department of Health, the average Australian between the ages of 18-64 should aim to do about 2.5-5.5 hours of moderate intensity physical activity per week or 1.25-2.5 hours of vigorous activity per week. In addition you should also complete muscle-strengthening activities at least two days a week.

This activity can be as typical as running or as creative as you want.

  • Speed walking on the beach
  • Jogging
  • Yoga Classes
  • Barre Classes
  • Cycling
  • Dance
  • Pilates
  • Swimming
  • SUP
  • Surfing
  • Anything that gets your heart rate up!

Eat Healthier. The Australian Dietary Guidelines recommend a well-rounded diet. So there’s no need to stress about the latest trend diets, just take the time to make healthier choices and try as best as you can to follow along the guidelines. Instead of cakes and slices try fresh fruit and smoothies. Instead of pizza and fish and chips try grilled chicken and salad. This doesn’t mean you can’t cheat and enjoy every once in a while but try to eat healthier more frequently and you’ll see changes before you can say the words, ‘beach body.’

Drink Healthier.  Sure it’s tempting to pour yourself a big glass of white wine when the sun is out, but it’s not necessarily going to get you the beach body you want. Of course you can indulge in a delicious glass of wine, cider, beer, soda or even a cocktail but try to replace some of those indulgent times with energised water and you won’t look back. Energised water or healthy water as we like to call it, will give you more energy, aid your sleep, improve digestion and circulation (as well as a myriad of other things) which all work together to get you the beach body you’ve always wanted.
